WE HAVE EXPANDED
In order to serve our partner organizations better and provide more food to those facing food insecurity, we needed more space. In June 2024, we announced plans for the next phase in the growth and expansion of Milford Food Bank - a new facility! We broke ground on June 5, 2025, and will begin storing and processing food in May 2026. We are eager to utilize this amazing new building to better serve our community and provide more food to organizations serving the food-insecure in our region.
WHAT
DID WE DO?
Milford Food Bank was gifted property directly across the street from our distribution center, which has allowed us to build a new facility that includes a large warehouse, storage, offices, and a processing room. Being across the street will grant us better inventory management and a more efficient distribution method.
WHY
DID WE DO THIS?
Communities throughout Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio are suffering. Employment rates are dropping. Food costs have risen and remain high due to inflation. Wages aren't meeting the higher cost of food and bills. To meet the increased needs of our partner organizations and reach more individuals and families, we needed to increase our warehouse and distribution capacity. At the same time, Milford Food Bank is continuing to find more local small businesses, retail stores, and wholesale warehouses that are increasingly interested in partnering with us to help rescue food they would otherwise have to throw away. Additional warehouse space helps us to store and distribute this additional product. ​
WHAT
IS THE GOAL?
Our goal is to double our distribution to partner organizations. We currently distribute over 400,000 pounds of food to over 240 organizations each month. This expansion will allow us to increase our monthly distribution to up to 700,000 pounds of food. By doing this, we can touch the lives of over 200,000 individuals throughout Michiana EVERY MONTH.
